OCR: What is a unit descriptor? A valid unit descriptor is a sequence of terms, with adjacent pairs of terms separated by either a multiplication operator (".") or a division operator ("/"). Each term is either a unit_name or a unit descriptor enclosed in parentheses; therefore, a unit descriptor can employ an arbitrarily deep nesting of parentheses. A unit_name consists of one of the accepted abbreviations for a unit, optionally preceded by a metric prefix and/or followed by an integer exponent. A convoluted (and useless) example of a unit descriptor might be: kft.Ibf/(degk.(btu3/s4)/(kcd.sr))/m This definition of a unit descriptor follows ANSI Standard X3.50-1976, "Representations for U.S. Customary, SI, and Other Units To Be Used in Systems with Limited Character Sets".
